It is used alone or with other medications to treat non-hodgkin’s lymphoma (cancer affecting white blood cells called B-lymphocytes) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (a most common form of cancer that affects B-cells). It is also indicated to treat moderate-to-severe rheumatoid arthritis (a type of disease where the immune system attacks the body cells of its own joints)  in combination with methotrexate in adults. Indication:

• Rituximab is used alone or with other medications to treat certain types of cancer (e.g., non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia). It is a type of medication called a monoclonal antibody. It works by attaching to certain blood cells from your immune system (B cells) and killing them. It is also used with other monoclonal antibodies and radioactive drugs to treat certain cancers.

Mechanism of action:

Dosage and Administration:

• Rituximab is administered by intravenous infusion. Patients should receive acetaminophen (Tylenol) and an antihistamine prior to the infusion to reduce the severity of infusion reactions
• Non-Hodgkin's B-cell lymphomas: 375 mg/m2 weekly for 4 to 8 weeks or longer.
• Chronic lymphocytic leukemia: 375 mg/m2 for the first cycle then 500 mg/m2 every 28 days for cycles 2 to 6
• Wegener's granulomatosis or microscopic polyangiitis: 375 mg/m2
• Rheumatoid arthritis: Two 1000 mg infusions are administered two weeks apart and they are repeated every 16 to 24 weeks

Side effects:

• A headache, fever, chills, nausea, heartburn, flushing, weakness, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist promptly
• Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including back/joint/muscle pain, increased thirst/urination, swelling of the hands/feet, tingling of the hands/feet

Vectibix 100mg injection is an anticancer drug belonging to the class of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors, containing the active ingredient Panitumumab.
